2ND Mile is a faith-based non-profit that helps schools and community organizations maintain and improve the facilities they rely on to educate young people and deliver needed services. A varsity quarterback at Stanford University founded it in the early 1990’s. The notion is to involve busy athletes in civic projects that can be done relatively quickly, yet produce lasting results. The images here are from a weekend where over a hundred people – young and old, Stanford athletes and others – worked to improve Ravenswood Ranch in East Palo Alto, California. The ranch brings rodeo, trail rides and fun to kids in surrounding neighborhoods.
